Abstract

The seminar Sensoria offers the possibility of interdisciplinary game-oriented development and playful experimental and alternative research projects in small groups. The topic usually changes on an annually basis, e.g. tangible, wearable, etc. The students realize their projects by developing prototypes without a direct commercial or academic usability in mind.

Video Wall

A video image projected onto a shop window is the playing field for this project. Here, the students have the task of adapting to the special situation with with appropriate game mechanics and control concepts: Walking audience, controllers available in the controllers available outdoors and the size of the playing area, which is over 20 meters wide.

Quick-to-learn game mechanics with short game sessions that can be played, for example, via touch control or the smartphone’s flashlight function as a mouse pointer.

Marble Maze

Marble Maze (by Carina Krafft, Elin Meineke, Julius Hartmann, Tobias Fox, Renata Samà is a haptic marble game that is played on a video wall with 9 screens. The game takes place on all displays simultaneously, whereby the players have to maneuver objects from display to display using haptic circuits. The game principle allows for both single and multiplayer use. The installation was later developed to a commercial product by Tobias Fox and can be booked for events and conferences via it's website.

Leap Motion Project

In this Leap Motion project by Artjom Fransen, Charly Preisig and Valentin Fischer, a ship displayed on a flat screen is steered using hand gestures that the game recognizes as gusts of wind and can steer the virtual ship. Obstacles have to be navigated around and items have to be collected.
